Sorry the site was down guys. I had to take it off line as I worked on a serious virus. Hopefully, things will go well now, but , give it a few days to be sure.

Hi John, Yah, it was quite a game, I was actually up 3 pawns in the white side of a Gruenfeld, certainly should have won, but Doug outplayed me in time pressure and came up with an amazing windmill/mating net.

Great results for Keith, Matt & Doug and Mike. I'd like to see Doug's Swindle over Bob.

KW doesn't appear to have aged much since I last saw him some years ago. Can you post any games? As I recall, a rather Fischeresque approach, similar to both Bailey and Pushkedra. Say hello tohim for me if you can

Keith has beaten up Hamilton once again. When are we gonna suck it up and stop this guy?

U1500 1st tie - Jonathan Farine & Kevin Zhou $ 28 each
For complete results, crosstable is on the CFC site. Thank you to all the players who made this event a success. Special thanks to Garvin Nunes, chief organizer, and Joe Ellis, TD, for their work.
We are happy to welcome International Master Art Samsonkin this weekend as he has confirmed he will play in the Hamilton Summer Open.
Simultaneous Exhibition
In addition to his agreeing to play we will also have him stay and give a simul if (and only if) we can get at least 10 players to pay 10 dollars each to participate in the simul.
If we get the minimum 10 sign ups by Sunday round 5 the exact time of the simul will be announced before round 5 begins. (It will probably start around 6:30pm).
If you are not participating in the tournament but would like to participate in the simul with International master Samsonkin you can email us at -email- before Saturday at midnight. Tournament participants who would like to play in the simul can either email us or ask an organizer to put them on the sign up sheet that will be at the tournament.
There will be a cap on simul participates (perhaps 20-30) in the event of an overwhealming response. Who would get to play in that situation is based on first come first serve with a preference given to Hamilton Open participants.
So make sure you sign up for the simul ASAP!
Once again thanks to IM Samsonkin and to all participants in this years Hamilton Summer Open

Summer Series Tentative Pairings For Round 5 Are Up
The tentative pairings and standings for round 5 of our latest Friday series, Summer Series 2008, are now up. Keep in mind "Summer Series" Round 5 will be on Friday August 22. This Friday (Aug 15) there are no "serious" games since it is the day before our Swiss. We wan't Hamiltonians to get a lot of rest so they can take on all the chess invaders from out of town...
Click on the following link to see the tentative pairings:
We are not posting pairings this week for Summer Series because there are several players who say they may join but haven't given a full commitment. Pairings will be made on Friday when we know better who is playing.
The same issue may apply next week as well since there are some players coming back from the Canadian Open and it’s not clear how it will affect the tournament.
Congratulations to Razvan Preotu for winning first place in the Hamilton Junior Chess Championships with 4.5 points. Honourable mentions go to Risto Pulendzouski who came second with 4 points and Matthew Nyhus and Henry Sun who tied for third place with 3.5 points each.
A tie breaker did take place for the third place trophy which Matthew was able to hang on and win in a second blitz game after holding the first game to a draw even though he was down a queen.
Just one example of the many exciting games that took place: Matthew and Razvan were playing in round 5 and even though down an exchange Razvan managed to escape with a draw.

One of our small brown clocks did go missing during the tournament. If you happen to take it home by accident please return it to Hamilton, Burlington’s or Mississauga’s chess clubs. You can also email us at -email- and we can try to make arrangements to get it back. The junior chess club runs on a small budget and if we don’t get the clock back it will probably go un replaced.
