Chess DB: A Free chess database. This is the best fork of the amazing "SCID" chess database. Cotains links to a few large databases as well. Hints: 1) Turn on the pgn window feature via "window/pgn window" to see the list of moves. Right click on any move to see that position pop up. 2) Click on "tools/opening reports" for an ECO style table. This is the feature used to prinout the tables in our own "opening reports" menu.
Click here for Chess DB Chessbase Light: Great for storing and commenting your own games. I also like to use it or Chess DB to read chess books since in either program you can explore variations of any complexity without getting lost. Latest version can connect to playchess. Includes a slightly older but effective fritz engine for analysing your games.
Click here for ChessBase Light BabasChess: A very good chess interface for connecting to freechess.org and playing games with people from all over the world. Once youve gotten an account with freechess you can find slow games by joining Teamleague and the STC bunch. IMHO both Babas and and Thief kick Blitzin's butt.
